Basma Scarves started with a small idea: that a hijab could carry where you're from.
Every 100% modal scarf we design is inspired by a Muslim country's national flower, botanicals, and colours. Breathable, soft, opaque, and available in two sizes.
Palestine—the olive tree. Olive trees hold the deep roots of Palestinians to their land, passed down through generations. We wove delicate olive branches into the fabric as a tribute to the endurance of the Palestinian spirit.
Oman—the desert rose. In Oman's Dhofar region, the desert rose blooms against warm sand. The scarf takes its earth tones from the landscape that has nurtured those blossoms for generations.
Qatar—the qataf. Sea lavender grows where Qatar's desert meets the Arabian Gulf. The print honours a country rooted in faith and tradition, which has become a place of generosity and opportunity.
And so on, through more than twenty countries—Somalia's king protea, Bangladesh's water lily, Tunisia's jasmine, Lebanon's cedar, Yemen's coffee blossom, Sudan's hibiscus, and more.
Every print is hand-designed in Toronto, then produced in limited runs on 100% modal.
10% of all proceeds is donated to humanitarian efforts. Each hijab is selected and designed intentionally to unite all of our homelands with one common thing: the national flower.
We saw a gap in modest fashion. We didn't want to produce in masses; we wanted limited, highly curated pieces that make you feel confident and beautiful. Our mission is to unify the Ummah, the way the Prophet SAW advocated for, with one common thing: our national flowers.
And that created our wearable gallery.
